Welcome to the Coffin Hop

Welcome to the Coffin Hop!Ā  And what a perfect time for it: one full week before The Big Night.Ā  One full week of hopping blog to blog, entering contest after contest for a chance at Halloween and horror goodies galore.

Speaking of winning great prizes, Iā€™m giving away a Halloween Mystery Bag filled with over $50 of assorted prizes.Ā  Iā€™d tell you what youā€™re in for, but that would sort of defeat the purpose, donā€™t you think?

Before I get to the contest rules, let me introduce myself.Ā  My name is Anthony J. Rapino, and I kill people.Ā  Well, I kill fictional people anyway.Ā  Itā€™s sort of my thing.Ā  I donā€™t mean to imply that I enjoy such deviant acts.Ā  I mean to state it directly:Ā  I enjoy it. And you enjoy reading about it, otherwise what are you doing on my website?

Oh, right.Ā  The contest.

But wait.Ā  That canā€™t be the only reason.Ā  Surely not.Ā  A normal person, seeing something called ā€œThe Coffin Hopā€ would run screaming in the other direction.Ā  A normal person would scoff, or roll their eyes, or wander into the nearest confessional.Ā  But you, my dear new friend, said, ā€œOh hell yeah.ā€Ā  You tripped over your own fingertips to click repeatedly on horror blog after horror blog until you reached my dark corner of the web.Ā Ā

What kind of host would I be to simply say, ā€œHere, comment to enter my contest and get lost.ā€Ā  No.Ā  Not me.Ā  First, let me put your worst fears to rest.Ā  I have nothing to sell you.Ā  My first novel wonā€™t be released for a few months (Soundtrack to the End of the World, being published by Bad Moon Books, if you wanted to know).

I do, however, have many published short stories that are freely available through the magic clicky-links on my Works page.Ā  They require no money, only a bit of your time.Ā  Or perhaps youā€™d like to know more about little ol’ me.Ā  If so, you can navigate to the About Me page, where youā€™ll discover the true source of my, ahem, fictional worlds.Ā  And donā€™t forget to click around the Sunshine Says page, where youā€™ll find a talkative skull and her zombie friend spouting all manner of inspirational thoughts.

Now then, the contest.

If youā€™d like a chance to win the super-awesome Halloween Mystery Bag, follow these simple instructions:

  • You must follow/subscribe to my website in some form (Google reader, RSS, etc).
  • Comment on this post with the answer to this question:Ā  When and where was I (truly) born? (For clarity, I’ll accept either of my birthplaces mentioned on my website).
  • Make sure to leave me some way of contacting you in your comment (e-mail address, twitter name, facebook contact, etc)
  • And that’s it!Ā  If you want the one simple entry, you can stop reading now.Ā  However, if you’d like more entries into my giveaway…

  • For extra entries into the contest (one extra entry per method) do the following: subscribe to my newsletter, follow me on twitter, add me on facebook.
  • For an extra entry, comment on my post here.
  • Be sure to let me know which of the ā€œextrasā€ you did in your comment so I can add the proper amount of entries to your name.Ā  (If youā€™re counting, you can get a total of 5 entries)
  • If you already do/did the ā€œextras,ā€ (previously followed me on twitter, etc) you still get the extra entries, so be sure to mention it in your comment.

The details

  • I will draw a winner at midnight on Halloween night and contact the winner soon after.
  • If I get no response within 72 hours, I will draw again for a new winner.
  • No purchase necessary to enter.Ā  Void where prohibited.

Okay, thatā€™s the long and short of it, my horror loving friends.Ā  When youā€™re done entering my contest, be sure to click the link below and go back to the Coffin Hop list.Ā  There are still many more contests to enter!

  1. I’d have to say ye were twice-born, lad, and thus twice-blest: 1607 in jolly ol’ England + 1980 in Brooklyn USA. I be followin’ ye by Google reader, Twitter, and now Facebook. Ye can be reachin’ me by this here handle: @mfowler76

  2. ‘Truly’ born is a little vague šŸ˜‰ Physically in 1980’s Brooklyn but I think your ‘true’ self was born in 1607 England. Have fun!

    1. Yes? Maybe I’ll rephrase that… Thanks, Diana. I have you in for I think 3 entries, right? Twitter, commented on the other post, and this comment? Let me know if I missed anything.

  3. I stopped by earlier, but I’ll be damned if I was going to be the overzealous first commenter (again ;P).

Your births happened first in 1607 in The Kingdom of England, then again as a human child in 1980 – Brooklyn, NY.

Of course I’m following you on Twitter (What else do you expect from super-fan stalker?)

Didn’t know you had a newsletter, do now and yes, I’m so there (then again I’m sure I’m pretty much first up on anything knowledgeable Tony *shrugs*)

As for the comment on the respective post, I was actually your first commenter. (Does that get me extra points? I kid, seriously).

Facebook? Ah no…and you know why. Drats that was almost a perfect score.

Busy day today, but at some point I’ll email about the weekend. (Hugs) Indy

    1. Oh yes, and that’s 4 for Indy! šŸ™‚ I haven’t actually sent out a newsletter since the release of Uprooted. It’s not something I make use of very often. I have been wanting to send out one lately though.

  4. You may have been born in 1607 in The Kingdom of England, and you may have been born in 1980 in the Land of Brooklyn, but I, my friend, was born in 1969 in the City of Salem Massachusetts. Yep, the Witch City, home of the Salem Witch Trials (or Hysteria, if you’re one of THOSE people). If you want to see a whole place that loses its mind for Halloween, then you come visit. But you’re gonna have to park somewhere’s else and walk in. There’s just no room…

I’m following your site now, and I’ll be getting your newsletter, but I do not, as yet, ‘Twitter’. Sorry about that. I did manage to say hello on FaceBook though, so you’ll be seeing me there anyway.

    Happy Hopping!

  5. Hello Anthony,

So you were first born in 1607 in the Kingdom of England and later in 1980 as a human child in Brooklyn. If in all your travels, you have not been enlightened yet, there must be no such thing.

Of course Iā€™m following your blog and on Twitter, but me and Facebook have called off our truce, and so Iā€™ll just have to get lucky on 4 entries ā€¦ however, I am your 13th response. : )

I suspect I may be following you elsewhere but I refuse to say if I am for fear of restraining orders.

  12. Geddout! Born in Brooklyn and living in NEPA? My dad was born in Coney Island and my aunts lived in Borough Park and Prospect Park! My “bf”‘s dad had a garage on King’s Highway! And all my family lives a stone’s throw from Scranton. (I am the only one who pronounces the letter T in that word.)

Just tell me you use the word “enneh” and we’ll be fast friends. šŸ™‚

  13. Just making sure I have everyone’s entries tallied here. A couple posted their entries on my other page:

Cheryl Bradshaw is in for all 5 entries.

Sandy Gable Musick is in for all 5 entries.

If anyone is missing entries (I should have tallied them in replies to each post), please let me know. Good luck all!

  14. You know (all of my online personas) got your back on Twitter, Facebook, Google friend connect, and you were born in Brooklyn, where you fooled everyone into believing you were normal by doing normal kid things šŸ˜‰

    1. Thank you, sir. I recognize you from Twitter already, and see you’ve added me on facebook and commented on my other post. I have you for 4 entries (let me know if I missed anything.)
