"Lost Little Girl" and "Red Death" AND Free Book Contests!

Posted on: October 28th, 2007 by Anthony Rapino 6 Comments

You can read my flash story, “Lost Little Girl,” for free at Every Day Fiction.

EDIT: I just found out that one of my stories appears in today’s (Sunday October 28th) edition of the Pocono Record: the local paper. I had entered a Halloween Writing contest a couple weeks ago and never heard back. I assumed my story wasn’t the winner. Well, turns out, I was right. I didn’t win. But my story did appear in the paper.

I was going to scan a copy to post, but I found it on the paper’s online site. Unfortunately, it is sharing space with the other stories. You’ll find mine on the right hand side, second story down. It’s called “Red Death.” Actually, the original title was “The New Horror,” but I guess I forgot to include the title on the online entry form, so they named it for me. Oops.

Red Death

Let me know what you think.

Happy October

***EDIT: Last one, I swear. A couple of bloggers are giving away free books through contests, and I wated to give a shout out for them.

The first is Clyde Andrews, who is giving away a copy of his latest book, Escape From Epsilon, a collection of short stories.

The second contest is being held by Jim over at Shamus Writes. He’s giving away a copy of Dune!

Go and enter both contests. It’s free!

Good luck.

Hey! Congratulations on the publications! Lost Little Girl is really chilling – good job!

And I refuse to comment on those doughnuts below, they’re just too decadent!
    😉

Congratulations Tony. Both stories are great.

In Red Death I particularly like this part: ‘…her mouth puckered into a tiny, red stop sign.’ It jumped out the page at me when I read it. Wow.

I’ve sent Everyday Fiction a few stories. They just keep on sending me back more hook fodder though. I think I shocked them a bit with how violent one of my pieces was. Never mind.

    Two thumbs up, times 2!

I like playing around with flash fic. Especially these days when writing time is oh-so-non-existent.

Hey, do you know where I can find some tasty, homemade doughnuts?

Thanks AbV, I’m glad you liked it. Awww, come on. The doughnuts are calling…

Thanks Steve. I actuially had someone else comment on that very line. Now I wish I saved it for a better story! 🙂 Oh, and they rejected one of my stories for the very same reason.

Thanks Hope. Hmmmm, homemade doughnuts you say?

Nice stories, Tony. I loved the “Lost Little Girl.” At first, I thought the old man would be the baddie. It caught me off-guard when she attacked him.

In “Red Death” I felt a bit cheated. There was no ending. It was good, but I think could be more suspenseful with some kind of resolution.

    Good going, just the same.
    Paul

Thanks, Paul. Yeah, Red Death is definitely one of those cut short sorts. I’ll send you a buck. 🙂
