Another Weekend Almost Gone

Looking at my last blog post, I see over a week has flown by without so much as a peep from me. I guess I don’t have much to say.

There is little to no news on the writing front. I haven’t gotten any more acceptances.

I have this sci-fi (ish) story that I wrote. I’d never written anything like it, so I’m not expecting a good reception, and in fact, it has already gotten rejection or two.

No news on the novel. No news on the chapbook, though the contract has now been signed. No news on my short story to be released in the next issue of Black Ink Horror.

My pumpkins are almost officially into the “vine” stage of development. I’ll get some pictures up soon.

In the WIP world, I’m nearing the end of a first draft. It’s a short story I’ve been calling “Alan’s Creations,” though that title no longer fits and needs changing. A tease? Surely. As long as you forgive the rough, first draft state it is presented in:

The first time Alan took the drug, he had only the vaguest idea of what it might do to him. He even thought it might kill him, or possibly do nothing at all. But like the day he discovered the flowers, he felt compelled to proceed, as if in a hypnotic state.

He swallowed one pill then sat back in his leather chair, behind his expansive wooden desk. He was the captain of a ship, exploring new territories. Maybe he would win some sort of award for his work. The drug could be a cure to some disease, though he admitted silently from within the fog that swallowing an untested substance was foolish experimentation. Still, not even this thought could break his calm.

That filled out the post nicely. I should use that trick more often.

  1. Hey!

This is still a great post, don't worry about not posting about acceptances, we all have down times where the brain juice doesn't work properly and our blogs go a little cold. The good thing is that you start back up again 😀

Now, this is a nice little blurb! Can't wait to read the rest (when it gets published somewhere, I'm not looking over your shoulder or anything like that :D)

    Have a great Sunday!
    Happy writing!

Mmmm…good little teaser…will we get to know the rest?

I can't believe how quicker the weeks fly by and I haven't updated my blog. Well…we writers are busy people!!!!

  3. K, yeah, I'm trying to keep up with it. I think a while back I promised at least two posts per month, and I'm way beyond that.

Akasha, I sure hope you'll get to know the rest. 🙂 Once I finish the first draft it'll go through the editing (usually two to four weeks worth), and then I'll start submitting it. So it may be a while, assuming it ever gets accepted.

And yes we are busy, busy, busy.

  4. Now news this end either… The world has forgotten us, lets scream really loudly.
