Two Weeks

It’s been two weeks since I’ve made any additions to my novel.  Two weeks of house repairs.  Two weeks of company and holiday barbeques.  Two weeks of my summer gone.

But no writing.

If you’ve ever been in one of these situations, you know that the longer you go without writing, the harder it is to get back into it.  For instance, today is the first day in two weeks I’ve had time to really sit down and write.  What am I doing instead?  I’m posting a blog about how I am not writing.  Counterproductive, don’t you think?

Oh, don’t worry.  I’ll get back to it.  Today probably.  I love writing too much to ever go too long without working.  This little exercise in complaining is just what I need to get my ass in gear.  It’s the electric jolt to the brain that says, “Hey, you.  The one with the blank expression on his face.  The one staring at inane youtube videos and forum posts.  Cut it out.”

Then I’ll think, cut it out?  Now there’s an idea.

Off to work.

I feel this post, man. I feel it hard.

    (Did that even make sense?)

  2. You’ll get back into the groove. “Cut it out” — nice story starter.

    • Thanks, Milo. I sure hope so.

  3. Two weeks? Argh… try three-and-a-half.

  4. It’s harder to get back into it and I always feel very guilty if I go too long without writing. Plus I love writing, so I miss it if I’m away from it for too long.

Must be something in the air. I’ve always written, but within the last month or so I’ve found it really hard to just sit down and do it. And I’m not the only one suffering…

    • DRC, The heat and humidity kill me. Maybe that’s it…

Danielle, Same here. Time to get back on the horse.

      Cathy, No thanks. :-p

  6. Katey says:

It’s hard to get back in, but it nags at you the whole time. “Why don’t I feel right…? What is that thing I’m supposed to be doing…?”

    Oh, right. That.

    Stupid life, interfering!

  7. Cate Gardner says:

This is why I intend to keep writing (or so she says know) during my glorious holiday which starts THIS WEEKEND. I cannot wait.

  8. Indigo says:

I was supposed to get back on the horse yesterday…

You know what they say about the best made plans…

Add in the whole thematic idea of no pain killers and all the various ways it backfires…Maybe I can write a short about chewing your tongue off? Try writing a short to get the gears grinding forward. Might lube up the muse enough to engage. Stop grinning, lube and muse isn’t supposed to be erotic…(Hugs) Indy

P.S. I’ll email some info for another site I found pays 5 cents a word.
