Guest Post: And the Winner Is…

Today, not only do I have the honor of hosting a guest post by Joanna Parypinski, but we also get to announce the winner of The Pandora’s Box contest!  Now, I have to admit–shamefully I might add–that I haven’t yet had the time to read Pandora’s Box.  But I can say this with no hesitation whatsoever:  I will.  And you should too.  What’s that?  You’d like to know why?  Well I’ll tell ya.

Because of the numerous, stellar reviews.

Because how can you say no to this synopsis!?

Don’t open the box. There’s something in the basement of Maria’s new house—something dark and primeval that made the previous owner commit suicide. It has infected the town of Sickle Falls, giving its inhabitants nightmares of a dark, fanged spirit that thirsts for blood. When Maria finds a mysterious ivory box buried in the bowels of her house, she must unearth its secrets before whatever is inside escapes and destroys them all.

And because this is Joanna Parypinski we’re talking about, and she knows what she’s doing.

But that’s enough from this old windbag.  I know what you came here for.  Take it away Joanna!

Ladies and gentlemen, goblins and ghouls, it’s time to announce the winner of the Pandora’s Box Contest! And the randomly-chosen winner of the contest is…

ERIK GUSTAFSON!

Congratulations! You’ve won a Pandora’s Box of goodies. Here’s what you’ll find inside:

-A signed paperback edition of PANDORA

-Two bookmarks

-A Damnation Books pen

-A fake bloody sickle

Your prize will be in the mail soon and on its way to you!

Though there was a creative element to the contest, the big prize was chosen at random. Well, I can’t neglect the creative part, so let’s take a look at some of my favorite answers that people gave for the question: What would you find if you opened Pandora’s Box?

Creepiest Answer:

“Well, I have a bit of a driving phobia. I can overcome it in areas I become used to, but driving unknown places causes me an unusual amount of stress. So a car would come out and fuse my arms to the steering wheel and my feet into the peddles and take off, unable to stop. I also find faceless things creepy, so the car would be filled with people devoid of facial features, except for mouths that would gibber at me endlessly as I careened down endless streets.”

Funniest/Grossest Answer:

“It would be filled with writhing, plump earthworms. AHHHHHHH
(with a dead mouse underneath)”

Most Creative Answer:

“Remember that episode of The Twilight Zone where a woman finds buried in her garden a chain with a big sun clock hanging from it. From then on whenever she says stop, the time stops, leaving everyone in the world frozen in the middle of what they were doing. At the end, a nuclear bomb is launched from Russia to the US and the world is about to end, so the woman stops everything and lays alone in her bed. Though she is surrounded by her family, they are all frozen and she must decide whether to die with them or live alone forever.

In my Pandora’s box there would be an amulet that granted me some kind unnatural power that seems like a blessing in the beginning but ends up being a curse.”

These were my favorite answers, so to reward them, I’ll be sending them some bookmarks.

Thanks for playing, everyone!

The Pandora Blog Tour concludes tomorrow at RedTash.com.
