October
Sometimes I feel like I’m stuck in a haunted time machine. The hours and days move past with the speed of a superfluid. Ghosts of the past materialize and linger like afterimages.
Summer becomes autumn, and October’s majesty beckons.

Of course, I’m happy it’s October. The problem is, the waiting just doesn’t take as long as it used to, and October disappears like smoke from a bonfire. This month should linger. It feels so big in my mind, yet often withers like pumpkins on the vine, left to rot in the fields.
This haunted time machine of mine… I wish it would break. I wish the gears would rust and crumble. I beg the hidden specters to gum up the works with ectoplasm. Anything to slow time and make it run like it did when we were children.
October shouldn’t feel like a month. It should be its own season. Its own year.
My only trick—and it’s one I play often—is to experience as much as I can. That means haunted houses, drive-in movies, game nights, parties, horror movie marathons, Halloween music playlists, and plenty of spooky reads. The more I do, the slower time goes, and that’s something at least.

Precipice of Nowhere
Yes, I know this section of the newsletter has appeared every week this past month, but it’s my first new novel in a few years, and I’m very, very excited.
Kindle Pre-orders are Live, but if you’re waiting for the paperback, you could also help by sharing this news, (either via this newsletter or my other social media accounts).
I can’t tell you how much simple word of mouth campaigns can help with books sales. I truly appreciate anything you can do to help spread the word this month.
