I can’t promise I’ll update my work in progress every Wednesday, but I thought I’d give it a go this week.
I’m 3,000 words into an untitled Halloween story that looks as if it’ll never be finished. This happens to me sometimes. I started writing the story, happy with its premise and direction. After a few days here and there of not working on it, I’ve lost interest. There may be other extenuating circumstances to my inability to finish the story, but I can’t pinpoint them at the moment.
I started a new story last night, after staring blankly at the Halloween one, and got about 500 words into it.
I am planning on switching gears, out of short story mode and into novel mode, once this month is out. My plan is to have a finished and edited novel by time my first one is published in late 2011.
Well, that’s about all I have for you.

I find if I don't complete the first draft of a short within a couple of days, I lose all interest in it.
Write on, write on. And now I want the same advice from you. LOL. All the best with the stories!
Cate, Yes, definitely spinning. I can usually let a short sit a day or two without losing interest, but a novel is a whole other ballgame.

You'll make novel #2 happen, I'm sure of it. As for the Halloween story…the further I am away from mine, the less I like it.
I find that if my story isn't written while the idea is fresh, I lose it. I go through these free writing periods where I write like a madwoman until its all on paper and then I read it and salvage what I can.
Nice plan Onipar! Good luck with it. And don't worry none, cuz that pettering out thing happens to all of us. It's just part of the process. 😀
That's how I like to do it too, E. I try to get it all down and worry about editing afterward. I'm just really bad at keeping a good writing schedule.

I like that goal– having one ready to go by the time the debut novel comes out. Gotta keep on keepin' on, right? Still, congrats again– like Cate said, gotta be still spinning.
OMG! I've just read the wonderful news that your novel is going to be published! CONGRATULATIONS!! Does it feel as good as you thought it would?…or are you still reeling from the shock of it all? Either way, you deserve it. Well done onipar! 😀
