LETTERS FROM MOON HILL: The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Friends:

Welcome back to October. Our time is here once again, and every fiber of my peculiar makeup is shivering and shuddering in anticipation. Each day is a brilliant, auburn surprise. Every moment is a sliver of autumnal delight. Craggy orange pumpkins have again taken over storefronts and stoops; apples are piled high in baskets and displays. Yes, October is here, and we are ready.

I’m sitting at my desk, drinking a cappuccino dusted with chocolate and cinnamon. My Halloween playlist is on Spotify, and outside my window a cool breeze confers with colored leaves. On the street below, specters of Moon Hill traipse through hidden corridors, just behind the trees. They travel as falling leaves and reappear outside a window. Then, inches from your neck, reaching and tickling. Impatiently hungry.

Let’s not keep them waiting.

I do hope you give the reprint of my debut novel a chance. It was a joy visiting with Marty, Naomi, Corey, and Anna again after so many years, and I’m excited for those who are meeting them for the first time. You’re in for a treat. And perhaps a few tricks.

Happy Halloween, my friends. And as always…

Breathe deep of the night.
