Word Count Trackers

I’ve noticed, using google analytics, that a large number of people have found my site searching “Word Count Tracker.” I know a lot of writers like to keep track of word counts for National Novel Writing Month in November (NaNoWriMo) too. I decided I should come back to this old post and create some easy access links to the word count trackers I have found or used.

Here ya go:

Writertopia: This one has two word count tracker, or word meters. The first is the one I am using now, and is pretty basic. The second is a humorous cartoon one that changes as you add words. Both meters, however, are stuck with a “goal” of 60,000 words, which you can’t change.

Critique Circle: Here you can build your own word count tracker. You have the ability to change the size, color, font, goal count, and more. I might change my meter to this one soon.

Svenja: Another simple but adjustable meter.

honorless: A *very* simple meter. You can set your own goal.

languageisavirus: Yet another simple meter with a set-your-own goal. You can change the meter color on this one.

If you find any other meters you would like added to the list, just leave a comment.

Happy writing!

(The old post)

I just wasted a good half an hour trying to find a word count tracker for the old blog. I used to have one, but I can’t seem to remember where I got it.

Anyway, the point is, I am writing a new novel, and I want to track the word count here.

If any of you other writers out there know of some cool trackers, let me know.

For the sake of not totally wasting my time, I’ll post my current word count:

6,571 WORDS

I know. Not exactly a milestone. Frankly, I’ve written short stories longer than that. But I am on my way. And speaking of which, I’m going to go write now.

Cheers.

  1. I don’t have much experience with wordmeters. I just followed Andreas links though and I loved the second one. What can I say? I like cartoons.
