Labor Day Weekend

Well, it looks like the editors of many magazines are cleaning out the old slush piles for the holiday weekend. I received a 30-day rejection from Weird Tales, and a 32-day rejection (for two flash pieces) from The Pedestal Magazine. I resubmitted a couple of stories this weekend too. Trying to keep the stories flowing.

Playing Catch-up (Not Ketchup)

I started working on my novel about 2 hours ago. Then I went to get a drink, and suddenly, I just don’t know what happened. Two hours–kaput! What’s that about? Since I already wasted a bunch of time installing a new mouse on my computer and brewing up some fresh coffee for iced-coffee, and any

In it up to my armpits…

Debt that is. It seems I owe everybody something. I owe student loan companies money. I owe my job time. I owe this blog’s readership a post (which I hope to pay in full now). Deeper and deeper. Up to my armpits. My cat needs his litter changed. My bird needs his seed. My garden,

“Halo” Contest

About one year ago, i entered a flash fiction contest over at Jason Evans’ blog, Clarity of Night. It was a great experience that led me to meet great writers, many of which appear in my links section. Though Mr. Evans organizes these contests often, this has been my first opportunity to participate again. To

Rain: The Other White Meat.

It’s raining, but I don’t mind very much. Somehow rainy weather is more interesting. Today was one of those days that I had to be out in it. Not just walking to and from the car, but unloading trucks for work, and bringing out garbage. And, okay, walking to and from the car. As I

Who ever said 13 was unlucky?

I seem to have promised to post about my Friday the 13th. I can’t break a promise, can I? Things turned out differently than I had planned. My movie marathon and creepy confections had been postponed to the 14th because I was invited to a poker game. It had been a while since my last

Happy Friday the 13th!

Now what kind of horror writer would I be if I didn’t acknowledge Friday the 13th? For me, this day has little to do with superstition and bad luck. In fact, I tend to celebrate it like a holiday. While not as prevalent on my calendar as Halloween, I still like to have horror movie

Oh Well.

I won’t lie. After the past couple bits of good news I received, I was hoping to keep the ball rolling. I had a similar hope over a year ago when I sold my first story to a paying market. But that wasn’t the case. I hit the road hard and had a long 1

It’s the Weekend Again

Happy Saturday fellow blogians. Blogites. Bloggers. Uh, you know what I mean. I watched The Hitcher last night. I have to tell ya, I totally expected it to be much worse. Now, I’m not saying it wasn’t kinda bad, but it wasn’t as bad as many other movies I’ve seen in the past months. Plus
